Acoustic condition assessment technique for pipe wall thickness
Wednesday 28 June, 2017
ePulse is an acoustic condition assessment technique that can be used to prioritize pipes for replacement or rehabilitation. Acoustic sensors are placed on valves, fire hydrants, or directly on the pipe, thus the method is non-invasive and non-destructive. The acoustical wave velocity is measured using a leak noise correlator normally used for locating pipe leaks using the cross-correlation method. From this an average minimum structural thickness of the pipe is obtained.
